I don't know about music, but I know what I like...

Hi all, and welcome to the bio.

I'm Mercutio (also known as "You! Sirrah! Unhand my wife!"), an old punk rocker who never grew out of it. Couple that with an upbringing involving the Beatles, the Stones, classical pops, and a totally inexplicable early liking for Bach (I could listen to a church organ for hours) and you end up as a sort of musical schizophrenic. I'm not much of a performer (played three-chord thrash for a succession of one-gig bands in the late 70's and did a bit of pub dj'ing in the early 80's) being, as most of you know, the shy and quiet type, but I'm pleased and proud to be part of Revolutions Radio. NnM has spent the thick end of two years talking me into this...

As the saying goes..."For years I've suffered for my music. Now, it's your turn..."

At the moment there are two. The erm debut (Tuesday 6-8pm RST=EST...I really ought to think of a name for it) tends more towards the rock&roll side of things, with the occasional full-bore no-nonsense rockout. It is, trust me on this, the coolest live show anywhere on the planet between 6-8pm EST on a Tuesday night. The Midnight Snack (Friday midnight-2 am Saturday RST=EST) is more of an electro/techno/dance/trance thingy. It, too, has been described as, and I quote verbatim, "better than being forced to eat brussels sprouts while impaled on a red-hot poker"

I don't normally do themed shows, the default cast list is The Usual Suspects, but having done a couple there will be more. On September the 8th we have the Temple Of Luuurve, and there is an upcoming 50's/60's rock&roll special in the works. Mrs Mercutio is doing the playlist for that one, so it's likely to be mucho manana...

As I've said elsewhere, my main interest in this is sharing the stuff I like with others, and hoping they like it too, even if only for the length of a particular track. If they then want to go and listen to more of the stuff, then that's a bonus. The downside, of course, is that there will be a bit of a shortage of Big Hair music, Shouty music, Yow-Yow music and things, but if you click on the schedule button you'll find we've got plenty of proper DJ's with a wider playlist who do cool shows with that sort of thing, so everyone's a winner there

First up, the ch00000nzday show has a new name. For the last 2 1/2 months it's been known as the debut erm show. Henceforth it is now the erm show. Thanks to The Management for that

Now, some upcoming stuff. The rock&roll special is still in gestation, fear not for it will taste the internerd waves sometime this side of christmas. More at this end of the pipeline is a Fiendish and Satanic Thingy...a Thingy so Fiendish and Satanic that it makes ordinary Fiendish and Satanic Thingies look like peacefully sleeping babies. Mere mortals will tremble before it, small children and the more impressionable will widdle themselves with fright, and even NnM will wish he'd done it first. And it will be fully interactive! Oh yes! Non-participants will be visited by my minions wielding sticks of rhubarb and jars of chili sauce and wearing leather aprons and malicious grins. Date to be confirmed here and on the schedule page, but it will be sometime in the next three weeks.

Also I&I avin a baggariddim nex mont'. Y'all bringin de hooch an de ganja (I&I gots ours put by), an we chill an stuff. Bo ya.

It'll be tough, but that just means you get the chance to show us what you're made of. Plus, there will be prizes! Oh, yes! I am giving nothing away at the moment, except to say brush up on your classics. OK...the Merciless Music Quiz. Here's how it works.

I'm going to play 18 tracks, with a bit of chat between each. Each track was a popular (at the time it was released) hit. Each track is also at the very least a reworking, if not a full lift, of a popular classical piece.I'm going to ask the same question for each track...the composer and name of the corresponding classical piece, one point for each. There's a bit of room for manoeuvre...if the composer's a Strauss, for example, I won't ask which one provided you don't nominate one, just Strauss would get you the point. Similarly, if a piece is from the third movement of Sibelius' 2nd Symphony, I'll accept just the 2nd symphony part, not the detail.

Two of the questions are worth 3 points, for reasons which will be explained when they arise. Finally, keep your ears glued to the whole show, because at the end of the quiz will be the Big Phat Hairy Bonus, worth 5 points. All you have to do is type your answer either in the chatroom or in pm to me. Want to beat the DJ? 12 points (not inluding the bonus) will do it.

The Rule. I can only accept one answer per person per question. As soon as you hit the enter key, that's it.

Yes, we still haven't got a name for it...

Over the next couple of weeks we're introducing a new occasional series - 2 hours of absolute classics, cuts that changed music, changed the world, or changed lives. Now, I'm pretty damn sure that each and every one of you can think of at least one track that fits that category, so, what would be your personal choice? It'd be interesting to see, so send me your all-time top 5. Some of it might even be played! And no, I'm not asking you to sort out the playlist for me, I've already got plenty planned
